LAGG - Locals Against Graffiti and Gangs
About

L.A.G.G. (Locals against graffiti and gangs) was formed as a result of a growing incidence of graffiti vandalism in Sydney. Home owners and local business owners have all been adversely affected by the regular tagging of fences, walls ,real estate signs and street signs to name a few.

A community that is contaminated by graffiti unfortunately provides an impression that its members are dispossessed youth and that vandalism is a characteristic of that community. Therefore the general viability of a whole community can be threatened with lower property values and less business coming to the area.

Successful initiatives around the world in particular the USA have shown that a coordinated and systematic approach that involves the local community, council and police does reduce graffiti vandalism significantly.

Other factors which also contribute to a successful eradication plan is continuous education, improved technologies for graffiti removal and persevering with law enforcement and prosecution.
