The NSW Graffiti Hotline will make it easier to report graffiti in NSW, which will result in faster clean ups." The hotline (free call 1800 707 125) opened on March 1 and will operate from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.Every Local Government area in NSW has established an email address to receive referrals from the Graffiti Hotline and police will also be given the data.

Graffiti vandals forced to clean up
COURTS will have the power to strip graffiti vandals of their driving licences and force them to clean up their ''mess'' under laws introduced yesterday.

The Premier, Barry O'Farrell, said young offenders would be forced to appear before a magistrates court, which could prolong the time spent on learner or provisional drivers licences.

See email from my Anonymous "Graffiti Artist"

Dear L.A.G.G. I, as a graffiti artist find what you have said about graffiti artists extremely nasty and stereotypical. I would NEVER steal paint- neither would most artists out there. I agree that graffiti art can be considered vandalism but really, its just art so get used to it because the more you clean your walls, the more graffiti will appear.

Tougher laws needed
MEMBER for Bega Andrew Constance has slammed Labor, Greens and the Shooters for blocking tough new laws in the Upper House to crack down on graffiti vandals.

“The NSW Liberals and Nationals Government laws would have required graffiti vandals to appear in court and given magistrates the power to extend L or P Plates or take the vandal’s licence away altogether,” Mr Constance said.

It seems as if the scourge of graffiti is still with us. And that urban blight — or modern expression of the cries of the oppressed and misunderstood, depending on your viewpoint — is in the news again, on two fronts. Firstly, NSW upper house MPs have refused to pass the O'Farrell government's new graffiti law, which gave magistrates the power to strip offenders of their driver's licences among other measures. "For every small business, home or train targeted by a graffiti vandal, I will be holding Labor, Greens and the Shooters to account," the Premier, Barry O'Farrell said.
