Residents say graffiti worsening
IT’S ugly, offensive and becoming a big problem in your area - graffiti is now more common in most Sydney suburbs than it was five years ago.

Almost half of all readers who took part in the Cumberland-Courier Newspapers Community Pulse Survey said graffiti had increased in their neighbourhood.

Writing on the wall for graffiti vandals
Premier Nathan Rees today announced a crack down on graffiti vandals across NSW.

Mr Rees said that the Government will take a hardline approach to graffiti and has developed a number of tough initiatives aimed squarely at tackling this crime.

The Premier made the announcement in Blacktown today, a suburb that topped the State with the highest number graffiti incidents last year with 737 incidents.

The founder of LAGG ( Locals against graffiti and gangs ) has cautiously welcomed the State Governments latest measures to combat the activities of graffiti vandals. Mr Allan Dabbagh said that he applauds Nathan Rees actions in providing the courts with new powers to potentially jail a person who is caught carrying a can of spray paint but he still wants a larger police presence
