Barry O’Farrell Shines A Spotlight On Wattle Grove Anti-Graffiti Initiative
In a surprise visit to Wattle Grove in South West Sydney yesterday, Mr. Barry O’ Farrell the leader of the State opposition party met with Allan Dabbagh the founder of L.A.G.G. (locals against graffiti and gangs)
L.A.G.G. is a community organization set up by Mr Dabbagh to deal with increased graffiti and vandalism in South West Sydney.
Mr O’Farrell highlighted the absence of a police station in the area and that the rise in vandalism had provoked residents into a proactive solution. He personally commended Mr Dabbagh on his initiative and in particular the website that Mr Dabbagh has established to provide information and give people an opportunity to join the organization.
Mr Dabbagh, a local real estate agent said “Graffiti crime affects everyone in a community and yet it is so often trivialized, unless action is taken and a concerted effort is made to tackle this type of vandalism then public perception of our neighbourhood will be negative and stereotypical assumptions will be made. Ultimately we will see a devaluing of the area.” Whilst local police and council members have all demonstrated their support and interest in L.A.G.G, all agree that comprehensive liaison between residents, local business owners, police and local council is required in order to successfully fight graffiti.
