Four males have been arrested overnight in relation to graffiti attacks which are alleged to have targeted numerous residences and businesses in Sydney’s south-west overnight. About 1am today Campbelltown police, as part of Operation Graffiti, were called to Sturt Street after reports of four males damaging street signs.
Upon arrival police arrested a 17-year-old youth and three 19-year-olds, who were taken to Camden Police Station for questioning. A number of items, including spray paint cans, were located nearby and seized for forensic examination. A short time ago they were each charged with two counts of malicious damage.
The juvenile was conditionally bailed and will be appearing in Parramatta Children’s Court today. Two of the 19-year-olds, from Bradbury and Cartwright, were refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today. The third man, from Airds, was conditionally bailed to appear in Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday 8 July.
It will be alleged a number of cars, homes and signs along Sturt, Colonial, George and Hume Streets, as well as the Waminda Avenue Shops, had been damaged by spray paint overnight. It is believed the damage could cost thousands of dollars and investigating police will this morning return to the area to conduct a canvass of the neighbourhood.
However, officers are urging members of the local community who wake this morning to discover their properties have been freshly damaged by graffiti to contact Campbelltown Police Station on (02) 4620-1199. Meanwhile, information regarding graffiti and those responsible for it can be provided anonymously to police by contacting Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
