Local businesses should see a drop in malicious damage to their property when the NSW Government introduces new laws to crackdown on graffiti.Under the new measures, young offenders who are caught vandalising will be required to clean up the graffiti, participate in community service or pay compensation.
It is more of a deterrent if the offender is forced to confront the shop or home owner. The punitive punishment as part of the rehabilitation and redirection of these offenders is lacking considerably at this point in time, Any amendment to legislation that the State Government is putting forward to beef up that punitive side of things in conjunction with the redirection and counselling side of things would be welcome by most sensible people in the community.
