MINISTER FOR HOME AFFAIRS CANDIDATE FOR HUGHES
Minister for Home Affairs, Brendan O’Connor and the Candidate for Hughes, Brent Thomas, said a re-elected Gillard Labor Government will combat graffiti in Wattle Grove through the Safer Suburbs Plan.
Brendan O’Connor said the community had raised concerns about graffiti with Federal Candidate for Hughes Brent Thomas, who had fought hard for the commitment.
"Graffiti not only ruins the attractiveness of an area but it can lead people to feel unsafe when they walk down the street," Brendan O’Connor said.
"If re-elected, the Gillard Labor Government will provide funds for a graffiti removal van for Wattle Grove."
Brent Thomas welcomed the funding commitment.
"This is a victory for local residents and traders who have been campaigning with me for the reduction and removal of graffiti," Brent Thomas said.
"I understand this is an important issue for local families and I have been talking to them about ways to reduce graffiti and improve safety in Wattle Grove."
The Gillard Labor Government is committed to helping local communities to identify and address local crime and anti-social behaviour problems.
Safer Suburbs is a partnership between Federal Labor, other levels of government and the local community.
The $50,000 for this commitment will be fully offset over the forward estimates, consistent with the Gillard Labor Government’s commitment to return the budget to surplus in 2013, three years ahead of schedule.
