Tougher laws needed

MEMBER for Bega Andrew Constance has slammed Labor, Greens and the Shooters for blocking tough new laws in the Upper House to crack down on graffiti vandals.

“The NSW Liberals and Nationals Government laws would have required graffiti vandals to appear in court and given magistrates the power to extend L or P Plates or take the vandal’s licence away altogether,” Mr Constance said.

“But Labor, the Greens and the Shooters combined to block those measures.

“It’s clear Labor, the Greens and the Shooters don’t understand the concern in the Bega community about graffiti.

“As I walk the streets of our community, people constantly raise with me the issue of graffiti and they tell me they want greater deterrents – and the new government acted.

“But Labor, the Greens and the Shooters obviously don’t think graffiti is a problem in the Bega community.”

By voting against this legislation, Mr Constance said Labor, the Greens and the Shooters have given graffiti vandals a green light to go on defacing homes, fences and buildings.

“I invite any Labor, Green and Shooter MP to come to Bega and explain why they blocked this legislation to get tough on graffiti vandals,” he sai
